JSW Motors is set to make its independent entry into the Indian passenger vehicle market on December 4, 2026, with the debut of the Combat plug-in hybrid SUV. The launch marks a significant milestone for the JSW Group as it establishes a standalone automotive brand separate from its existing partnership with MG Motor India. The Combat arrives as a rebadged and Indianised version of the Chery Jetour T2, a model already on sale in select international markets.
Powertrain and Performance Details
The Combat will be powered by a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine paired with an 18.4 kWh battery pack and two electric motors. This combination delivers a combined output of 360 hp and 610 Nm of torque, channelled through a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. The India-spec model is expected to be offered in a front-wheel-drive layout, though the global Jetour T2 also comes with an all-wheel-drive variant.
The plug-in hybrid system promises an all-electric range of up to 90 km under the NEDC cycle, with a total combined driving range of approximately 1,100 to 1,200 km on a full tank and full charge. Charging options include a 50 kW DC fast charger that can take the battery from 30 to 80 percent in around 27 minutes, while a 6.6 kW AC wall box requires roughly three hours for a full charge.
Design and Exterior Styling
The Combat retains the boxy, rugged silhouette of the Jetour T2 with a squared-off front fascia, flat bonnet, and a pronounced lower bumper. A five-slat grille sits between rectangular LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights and LED fog lamps. Flared wheel arches house 20-inch alloy wheels, while thick body cladding, tall roof rails, and side steps reinforce its off-road aesthetic. Traditional pull-type door handles and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel complete the utilitarian look. At the rear, vertically arranged slim LED tail-lamps and a chunky bumper mirror the front's upright stance.
Dimensions for the international Jetour T2 stand at 4,785 mm in length, 2,006 mm in width, and 1,880 mm in height, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase and 220 mm ground clearance. India-specific measurements and boot capacity are yet to be confirmed, though the global model offers a reported 752 litres of luggage space.
It is worth noting that the Jetour T2 recently received a facelift in overseas markets. However, test mules spotted in India suggest the Combat will be based on the pre-facelift version, with India-specific revisions to the front and rear bumpers, lighting elements, and Combat badging on the grille.
Interior, Features, and Safety
Inside, the cabin adopts an all-black theme with contrasting red stitching, exposed fastener detailing, and a crystal-like gear shifter. The dashboard centres around a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Slim AC vents, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, customisable drive modes, and a 360-degree surround-view camera are part of the package. Higher specifications are expected to include powered front seats with ventilation and memory functions, plus a 12-speaker Sony audio system.
On the safety front, the Combat is likely to offer six airbags, a 540-degree camera system with underbody view, and a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite featuring automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. The final India-spec equipment list will be confirmed at the official unveiling.
Local Assembly and Market Positioning
JSW Motors has confirmed that the Combat will be assembled locally at its upcoming Greenfield facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Initial units may arrive via the CBU route before transitioning to higher levels of localisation. The brand has partnered directly with Chery Automobile for platforms and components, operating independently from JSW MG Motor India.
Expected ex-showroom pricing falls between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, with most estimates clustering around the Rs 40-50 lakh bracket. At this price point, the Combat will rival the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, Honda ZR-V Hybrid, and the upcoming MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain and front-wheel-drive architecture differentiate it from the traditional ladder-frame diesel SUVs that dominate this segment.
Future Product Roadmap
Beyond the Combat, JSW Motors has outlined plans to introduce two more SUVs in 2027. These will be based on the Jaecoo J5 and the retro-styled iCar V23 platforms, both expected to feature pure-electric powertrains. This pipeline signals a clear focus on new-energy vehicles as the brand builds its portfolio in India.
The Combat's real-world efficiency, final pricing, and after-sales network reach will ultimately determine how strongly JSW Motors connects with Indian buyers in the premium SUV space.
