In a commanding performance, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 7 wickets in their IPL 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The match belonged to Mohammed Siraj, who was on fire with the ball, picking up 4 for 17 to dismantle HRS’s batting order. His strikes, including two in the powerplay and two at the death, restricted Hyderabad to a modest 152/8.
SRH once again faltered with the bat, losing key wickets early. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma fell cheaply to Siraj, while Nitish Reddy (31) and Heinrich Klaasen (27) tried to steady things before falling to R Sai Kishore, who was impressive with figures of 2 for 24. A late cameo by Pat Cummins (22* off 9) helped Hyderabad cross the 150-mark, but the total never looked enough.
GT’s chase didn’t start ideally, with the team reduced to 16 for 2 early on. However, Washington Sundar, promoted to No. 4, played a game-changing knock of 49 off 29 balls. His power-hitting in the powerplay turned the momentum, smashing Simarjeet for multiple boundaries. His counterattack broke HRS’s rhythm completely.
From there, Shubman Gill took over, anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 61 off 43 balls. Calm, composed, and stylish, Gill found a perfect partner in Sherfane Rutherford, who chipped in with a rapid 35* off 16. Together, they ensured GT wrapped up the chase in the 18th over without any more hiccups.
With this win, Gujarat Titans continue to look strong, while Sunrisers Hyderabad are left searching for their first win of the season after a fourth straight loss. Siraj’s spell and Washington’s fearless intent were the highlights of a one-sided contest that firmly tilted GT’s way.
