Auto Expo India Emerges as a Key Global Automotive and Mobility Hub
India has firmly established itself as a crucial player in the global automotive and mobility sectors, contributing significantly to the country’s economy. The automotive industry accounts for approximately 7% of India’s GDP and 40% of its manufacturing GDP, while contributing 14-15% to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue.
The sector provides employment to about 30 million people, both directly and indirectly, and is a leading global manufacturer in several categories. India holds the top position as the largest manufacturer of tractors and three-wheelers, is the second-largest producer of two-wheelers, and ranks as the fourth-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer worldwide. Additionally, India is the third-largest market for construction equipment globally.
India’s automotive industry is valued at over US$240 billion. To further bolster this thriving sector, the Indian government has introduced the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, which allocates US$3.13 billion for the automobile and auto components industry and US$2.18 billion for Advanced Chemistry Cell Battery Storage. This initiative aims to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependency on imports.
Moreover, India has opened its doors to 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) under the automatic route for the automotive sector, creating an attractive environment for global investors.
The upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 is set to be a grand success, providing a platform for industry leaders to participate, exhibit, and interact, showcasing India’s commitment to advancing its automotive and mobility sectors.
