Vantava Raguraman, an 11-year-old sailor from Chennai, has made waves by securing a bronze medal in the Optimist category at the 2025 YAI Youth and Junior Multiclass Sailing Championship. Competing against some of India’s best young sailors, Vantava represented Tamil Nadu with pride during the event held in Mysuru from 20 to 25 June.
“I’m thrilled to bring home a medal for my team and my State,” said Vantava, beaming with excitement. “The competition was tough, but the support from my coaches, family, and friends kept me motivated. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
Her journey to this moment has been one of dedication and perseverance. Training under the guidance of coaches Lingesh and Praveen at the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association, Vantava has spent the past three years honing her skills. From regional contests to national stages, her progress has been steady and impressive.
Now, this bronze medal marks a significant milestone in her budding career. Not only is it her first national medal, but she also becomes the youngest sailor from Tamil Nadu to achieve such a feat at this level.
“Her dedication and hard work have truly paid off,” remarked her coaches. “This medal is a testament to her strength and passion for the sport.”
Clearly, Vantava is just getting started. Already, she has her sights set on competing in international tournaments. And beyond personal glory, she hopes her journey will inspire more young Indians to take up sailing and chase their own dreams.
For now, though, she’s enjoying the moment. A bronze medal around her neck, a proud team behind her, and the vast sea still calling her name.
