Mumbai Indians extended their winning streak to five games with a commanding 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants, thanks to explosive batting from Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton, and a fiery four-wicket haul from Jasprit Bumrah. The win propelled MI to 12 points from 10 matches and marked their first-ever league-stage win against LSG.
MI’s innings was anchored by Rickelton’s 58 and Suryakumar’s 54, the latter becoming the third-fastest to 4000 IPL runs in the process. They laid the platform for a late-innings assault that took MI to a daunting 215. Suryakumar was at his destructive best, unleashing ramps, flicks, and lofted drives to dismantle LSG’s bowling, while the likes of Naman Dhir and Corbin Bosch finished strongly, hammering boundaries in the final overs.
Despite a promising start from Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran, LSG collapsed from 110 for 3 to 161 all out. Bumrah turned destroyer-in-chief during the death overs, dismissing Miller, Samad, and Avesh with a masterclass in pace variation. Trent Boult chipped in with three wickets, while Will Jacks and Karn Sharma did damage in the middle overs, including the key wicket of Rishabh Pant, who fell cheaply once again.
LSG’s chase never recovered from the middle-order slide, losing their last six wickets for just 26 runs. MI’s all-round performance left the young Wankhede crowd of 19,000 on their feet, celebrating a landmark 150th IPL win for the franchise.
