The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) has officially launched the logo and mascot for the upcoming New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships. The event, marked by the ‘100 Days to Go’ countdown, was held in New Delhi on Friday. The mascot, named Viraaj, is a spirited young elephant with a blade prosthesis, symbolizing strength, optimism, and resilience. The logo, on the other hand, beautifully captures India’s rich cultural heritage, the dynamism of para athletics, and the vibrant energy of New Delhi as the host city.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Vanathi Srinivasan (MLA and Chief Patron of PCI), actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood, graced the occasion. Chief Minister Gupta expressed her pride in Delhi hosting such a prestigious global event. She emphasized that the championships celebrate courage, ability, and human potential, calling the logo and mascot a reflection of India’s soul and the power of para sports.
Kangana Ranaut, the Brand Ambassador for the World Para Athletics Championships 2025, shared her excitement about being part of the event. She described Viraaj as more than just a mascot—it’s a message. A message of confidence, strength, and representation. Ranaut highlighted the importance of celebrating athletes who inspire millions with their resilience.
Vanathi Srinivasan echoed similar sentiments, calling the unveiling a visual and emotional tribute to para athletes. She emphasized that the next 100 days will be crucial as India prepares to host the world with pride and purpose. Paul Fitzgerald, Head of World Para Athletics, praised the preparations, stating that New Delhi 2025 is set to be one of the most engaging and inclusive championships ever. He expressed optimism about PCI’s vision and India’s enthusiasm for the event.
PCI President Devendra Jhajharia pointed out that the logo and mascot embody the spirit of para athletes—proud, powerful, and full of possibility. He extended gratitude to the dignitaries and the people of India as the countdown to the championships begins. Scheduled for October 2025, the New Delhi World Para Athletics Championships will be the largest para athletics event ever hosted in India, with participants from over 100 countries expected to compete.
The launch event marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward promoting inclusivity and excellence in sports. With just 100 days left, anticipation is building for what promises to be a landmark event in the world of para athletics.
