Amazon to Shut Down Appstore on Android Devices

Amazon to Shut Down Appstore on Android Devices,
Amazon has announced that its Amazon Appstore, the third-party app store for Android devices, will be discontinued later this year. Launched in March 2011, the app store will no longer be accessible on Android smartphones and tablets after August 20, 2025.
The company has also decided to shut down its Amazon Coins programme, a digital currency used for purchasing apps and making in-app purchases via the Amazon Appstore. The sale of Amazon Coins has already stopped, and users must use their existing Coins before August 20, after which any remaining balance will be refunded.
- Appstore Shutdown: Users will not be able to download or access the Amazon Appstore on Android smartphones and tablets after August 20. Existing apps downloaded from the store may not function reliably post-shutdown.
- Subscriptions: Any active subscriptions (with auto-renewal) should be canceled before the shutdown.
- Amazon Devices Unaffected: The Appstore will continue to function on Amazon’s Fire OS-powered devices, including Fire tablets, Fire TV streaming devices, and other supported products.
With this move, Amazon is shifting focus towards its own ecosystem, while Android users will have to rely on the Google Play Store or other third-party alternatives for apps and games.
