DC vs RR: Super Over Mayhem Seals Classic in Delhi

The Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) delivered one of the IPL 2025 season’s most thrilling matches, ending in a dramatic Super Over at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. With RR needing just nine runs off the final over and six wickets in hand, the chase seemed elementary. But Mitchell Starc had other ideas. Bowling five yorkers under intense pressure, Starc forced the game into a Super Over after Dhruv Jurel failed to get two off the last ball.
In the Super Over, DC’s fielding brilliance took center stage. RR lost both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag to run-outs within five balls, managing only 11 runs. DC chased that target with authority as Tristan Stubbs launched Sandeep Sharma for a six to seal victory in just four deliveries. Stubbs’ calm under pressure capped off a game full of twists and turns, and took Delhi to the top of the points table with their fifth win in six games.
Earlier in the match, Stubbs and Axar Patel combined for a blistering late surge that brought DC to 188 for 5. Stubbs’ unbeaten 34 off 18 and Axar’s quickfire 34 off 14 rescued the innings after a shaky start. RR’s sloppy finish with the ball including a 19-run final over laced with extras and a dropped catch – helped DC post a competitive total, especially given the two reprieves Stubbs received.
RR had their own moments of brilliance, especially Yashasvi Jaiswal’s early fireworks against Starc and Nitish Rana’s 51-run charge in the middle overs. But Sanju Samson’s injury mid-innings disrupted their flow. Even with Rana’s aggression and some late cameos, the Royals couldn’t cross the finish line in regular time, falling prey to Starc’s sensational third over, which included a perfect yorker to dismiss Rana.
Despite their power-packed lineup, RR faltered when it mattered the most. Mitchell Starc, after a rough start, turned hero with his death bowling masterclass. Delhi’s win wasn’t just about big hits it was about resilience, timing, and nerves of steel. This match will be remembered as a defining moment in DC’s campaign and one of the most dramatic IPL Super Overs in recent memory.
