GT vs KKR: Gill and Sai Sudharsan Guide Gujarat to Easy Win

source : BCCI
Gujarat Titans (GT) strengthened their hold on the top spot with a 39-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After posting a solid total of 198 for 3, thanks to Shubman Gill’s 90 and B Sai Sudharsan’s 52, they successfully defended the target. GT’s calculated approach to batting, marked by a slow but steady powerplay, was followed by an explosive middle overs assault, which saw their top three score 183 runs. Jos Buttler’s cameo of 41 off 23 added the finishing touch to a competitive total.
The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium tested the batsmen, with the surface providing just enough for the bowlers to exploit. However, GT’s patient yet potent approach meant they capitalized on the right moments, with Gill taking charge after a slow start. Both he and Sudharsan attacked the bowling when it was needed, with Sudharsan’s quick fifty taking the pressure off Gill. Despite the slow start, the Titans’ ability to accelerate at the right time ensured they reached a strong total.
KKR’s chase got off to a poor start, as Mohammed Siraj sent Rahmanullah Gurbaz packing early. While Ajinkya Rahane held the innings together with a 50 off 36 balls, the rest of the batting unit struggled to keep up. Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer found themselves bogged down by tight bowling, and though Russell showed some resistance with a couple of big hits, he couldn’t keep up the charge for long.
Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore’s smart bowling kept KKR’s chase from gaining momentum. Russell, who looked dangerous with his six and four, fell to a well-placed delivery from Rashid, signaling the end of any hopes for a KKR comeback. Prasidh Krishna’s economical 2 for 25 helped GT to close the game, maintaining their position at the top of the points table.
This win was a testament to Gujarat Titans’ disciplined and efficient cricket, with their top order again delivering the goods and the bowlers stepping up when needed. Their methodical approach continues to set them apart in the IPL 2025 season.
