Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a commanding performance to defeat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by eight wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2025. Despite RCB’s strong start to the season with two consecutive wins, their return to their home ground was spoiled by a clinical GT side. Mohammed Siraj’s early strikes set the tone for RCB, but the visitors’ composed chase ensured they walked away with a convincing win.
Batting first after being sent in, RCB faced early setbacks as Siraj dismissed both openers within the powerplay. However, Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell steadied the innings with a crucial middle-order partnership. Patidar, coming off a brilliant performance in the last match, looked in fine touch again, while Maxwell provided the attacking impetus. Despite their efforts, GT bowlers maintained their discipline, with Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad picking up key wickets to restrict RCB to a modest 169 for eight.
GT’s chase was headlined by an outstanding knock from Jos Buttler, who remained unbeaten on 73 off 39 balls. After the early dismissal of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan stepped up with a well-compiled 49 off 36, stitching a 75-run stand with Buttler. The duo capitalized on the shorter boundaries and the batting-friendly conditions, dismantling RCB’s bowling attack with ease. Sherfane Rutherford’s cameo of 30* off 18 balls ensured GT reached the target with 13 balls to spare.
RCB’s bowling attack, which had been dominant in previous matches, struggled to contain GT’s aggressive approach. While Siraj was effective in the powerplay, the rest of the attack lacked penetration, allowing GT batters to score freely. The Titans’ calculated chase highlighted their ability to handle pressure, as they never let the required run rate climb beyond control.
With this victory, Gujarat Titans secured their second win in three matches, climbing up the points table. Meanwhile, RCB, despite their strong start to IPL 2025, will need to bounce back quickly and regroup ahead of their next fixture. The loss at home serves as a wake-up call for the Bengaluru-based franchise as they aim to maintain their early-season momentum.
