Mahindra is preparing a major expansion of its electric portfolio with two important models slated for 2027. The BE 07 from the Born Electric sub-brand and the Vision T, which evolves from the Thar.e concept, represent different approaches to the growing Indian EV market. Both vehicles have been previewed in concept form and are now moving toward production.

The BE 07: A Premium Coupe-SUV on the INGLO Platform

The BE 07 will sit above the BE 6 in Mahindra's Born Electric lineup. It is built on the dedicated INGLO EV architecture and adopts a coupe-style SUV body with a sloping roofline. The expected launch window is early 2027, with an estimated price range of Rs 25-30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Two battery options are planned: a 60 kWh pack and a larger 80 kWh pack. The claimed WLTP range is up to around 450 km. Fast charging support goes up to 175 kW, allowing a 10-80 percent top-up in roughly 30 minutes. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive. The AWD variant is expected to produce around 394 PS.

Design highlights include C-shaped LED headlamps, full-width LED light bars, large alloy wheels, and blacked-out pillars. Inside, the dashboard features three integrated screens in a minimalist layout. Expected equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ADAS, over-the-air updates, and a head-up display.

The Vision T: A Rugged Thar-Inspired Midsize SUV

The Vision T takes a different direction. It is described as a rugged, Thar-inspired midsize SUV expected around December 2027. The model is an evolution of the Thar.e concept and uses Mahindra's Heartcore design language. Crucially, it sits on the flexible NU_IQ platform, which supports internal combustion, electric, and hybrid powertrains in a monocoque structure. This architecture aims to improve off-road stability while keeping the ride comfortable on paved roads.

Sources indicate the Vision T is about 80 percent close to its final production form. While the BE 07 is a pure electric vehicle on a dedicated skateboard platform, the Vision T's multi-energy platform allows Mahindra to offer different powertrain choices under a single body style.

Mahindra's Broader 2027-2031 Roadmap

Both models fit into a larger plan announced by Mahindra. The company intends to launch 16 new SUVs by 2031, split between 10 internal combustion models and six electric vehicles. Nine of the ICE models will be completely new nameplates. The INGLO platform will underpin the expanding Born Electric range, while the NU_IQ platform will serve future Scorpio, Thar, and XUV models across powertrain types.

Other Vision concepts shown alongside the Vision T include Vision S, Vision X, and Vision SXT. These are expected to evolve into production models under existing sub-brands over the next five years.

Market Positioning and Rivals

The BE 07 will compete in the mid-size premium electric SUV segment. Likely rivals include the Tata Harrier EV, VinFast VF7, Mahindra's own XEV 9e, and BYD's offerings in the same price bracket. The Vision T, with its off-road focus and multi-powertrain flexibility, targets a different buyer set that values rugged capability alongside modern EV technology.

Both vehicles reflect Mahindra's strategy of covering distinct SUV niches with purpose-built platforms rather than adapting a single architecture for every body style.

Mahindra's 2027 electric SUV launches show a clear split: the BE 07 delivers a design-led, highway-focused premium EV on a dedicated skateboard platform, while the Vision T brings Thar-derived ruggedness with the option of electric, hybrid, or ICE power on a flexible monocoque chassis. Together they demonstrate how the company plans to address both urban premium buyers and adventure-oriented customers without compromising platform integrity. Buyers should watch for official spec confirmation closer to launch, as battery sizes, range figures, and feature lists may be refined during final development.
