MI vs SRH: Jacks Spins, Bumrah Seals Another Win

Mumbai Indians (MI) are finding their rhythm in IPL 2025, notching up a composed four-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede. On a surprisingly slow pitch, MI used the conditions expertly, restricting SRH to 162 for 5 before chasing it down with 11 balls to spare. Will Jacks starred with both bat and ball, while Jasprit Bumrah was once again ice-cold under pressure. This marks MI’s second consecutive win and third of the season.
Will Jacks made a statement in his sixth game, showcasing his versatility. While his 36 off 26 set the tone with the bat, it was his offspin that turned the tide earlier. Exploiting SRH’s left-handed top order, Jacks struck twice in three miserly overs, finishing with figures of 2 for 14. His clever match-ups allowed MI to delay their Impact Player swap, keeping options open and eventually bringing in Rohit Sharma, who chipped in with a fiery cameo.
The pitch didn’t offer much to the batters, and MI’s bowlers knew it. Bumrah’s powerplay control, combined with Hardik Pandya’s timely breakthroughs and relentless yorkers from the pace attack, left SRH gasping. Though SRH had a decent opening partnership, they couldn’t break free in the middle overs. Travis Head’s struggle for timing and the lack of acceleration meant MI stayed in control. SRH’s late flourish, mostly from Klaasen and Cummins, came too late to post a daunting total.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, MI’s chase was rarely under threat. After openers Rickelton and Rohit laid a decent platform, Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav took over, peppering boundaries and exploiting SRH’s legspinners. Their 52-run stand broke the back of the chase, and even when Cummins tried to apply late pressure, Hardik Pandya ensured there were no hiccups with a quickfire finish that included some delightful strokeplay.
SRH, though helped by luck early on, couldn’t cash in. Fielding errors, misfired overs from their legspinners, and a pitch they couldn’t quite adapt to left them second-best. MI, on the other hand, showed how to play smart cricket on a sluggish surface – using conditions, matching up bowlers cleverly, and chasing without panic. With this win, MI is quietly building momentum in the middle of the table, and they’re looking more dangerous with every game.
